MIPS & COVID 19

MIPS & COVID19

Like most things right now, MIPS has also been effected by COVID19. CMS has created a COVID19 Response fact sheet that you can find here. This fact sheet contains information about submission deadline extension, hardship application reopening’s, new MIPS policies for the 2019 reporting period, new measures related to COVID19 and QCDR deadline extensions.

I want to highlight the new Automatic Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances Policy that has been implemented due to COVID19. This policy says that any individual MIPS eligible clinician who doesn’t submit data for the 2019 reporting period will automatically receive a neutral payment adjustment in 2021. This means you won’t be penalized for not submitting MIPS data. NOTE: this does not apply to groups or virtual groups! You can find more information about this here.

CMS has NOT made any decisions regarding MIPS in 2020 as of yet. There are a few things floating around to shorten reporting periods and allow additional exclusions, but nothing is set in stone yet. As always, I will try to keep you as updated as possible during this time! I hope everyone is staying healthy and safe!
